Development Director

Slow Factory is searching for a Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts. The scope of our work is very broad and deep, and requires a knowledge of cultures of resistance created by people of the Global Majority in the movement for climate justice.

The Development Director works independently to build meaningful connections and encourage community members to take action. Their work is overseen by the Founders and Executive Director, in addition to its Board of Directors. The Development Director is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive plan that leads to securing funding to support the initiatives of Slow Factory.

The Development Director will oversee the entire process of fundraising focusing on foundations and corporate donors.

Create and implement a plan to secure annual and multi-year funding from foundations in support of annual fundraising goals; manage a portfolio of prospects and donors.

  • Reaching out and establishing connections with prospective donor organizations
  • Write and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports for programs; assist in the development of grant budgets.
  • Steward existing donors and grow the pipeline of new donors.
  • Establish annual revenue projections and track progress through monthly income and cash flow reporting utilizing donor database and other tools.
  • Conduct prospect research to identify prospective donors and create strategies for engagement and solicitation.
  • Assist with other fundraising projects/events as needed and other duties as assigned.
  • Manage communications with the Board of Directors, including the preparation of documents for execution, creating the agenda, and presentations for quarterly meetings with the Board of Directors.

Knowledge

  • Brings own network of contacts of foundations, high net worth individuals, and/or corporate donors.
  • Fundraising techniques, strategies, information sources, and research techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in a non-profit organization with a track record of successful grant writing and procurement.
  • Experience with Bloomerang fundraising software or similar fundraising database management a bonus.
  • Experience in climate or social justice fundraising preferred.
  • Training or experience in communications, graphic arts, marketing, or related field is a bonus.

Skills

  • Demonstrated high-level writing and oral communications skills.
  • Must be able to organize materials and prioritize projects and meet deadlines.

Abilities

  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced and remote work environment.
  • Able to create/adapt presentation decks.
  • Work autonomously with initiative and accuracy.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
